Peter wanted to keep the instrument’s existing nut. After adjusting the fingerboard, he was able to remove the old, roughly cut string slots.
The next step: cutting new slots once the strings arrive. It’s a small detail in a larger repair, and a way of keeping something of the original maker’s work.
